Bardo

Bardo is a series of drawings taking inspiration and clues from the Tibetan book of the dead. This book seeks to create guiding outlines and prayers for the soul when it goes through the uncertain state after dead, but before being reborn. There are many dangers to this stage after death. The soul or mind can wander, so the prayers guide the soul to be pure and loving to this experience in order to be reborn in a good form. My interpretation of this concept is of embryonic and/or ancient beings both emerging from and being sucked in to a tiny black hole. This liminal time is a place where the old and new, unused and spent meet, where maybe time is warped and not important. I seek to express an uncertainty of form and development where the viewer can wonder.

The drawings are 135 cm x 95 cm on watercolor paper with pencil.
